Blu-ray VS HD-DVD: Who cares?

I put upgrading in quotes because other than a higher resolution there really isn't anything else these new formats offer and because of added DRM you'll be able to do less with them than a DVD. So remind me again why I have to shell out my hard earned cash for this? I'm still using an ancient CRT television that can't even use the higher resolution so both formats offer exactly zero benefit to me.
The change to CD's and DVD's was almost overnight. There was a distinct advantage to the new technology that made our lives easier. HD-DVD and Blu-ray lack this and that's why it's taking so long to develop. Scrap 'em both and try again guys, you're just wasting your time.
